Every now and then I encounter a misconfigured lan or wlan network with nonworking DNS. This usually happens when I'm in a hurry to get a connection and have no time to figure out the correct DNS server.
There is a solution!
Two simple, free, public, and foremost, easy to remember DNS servers are hosted by Google:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
It may not be wise to use these all the time e.g. for privacy reasons, but for quickly getting things to work these are great.
